Sherlock Holmes – A Game Of Shadows Movie Review

Along the first few minutes of the film I almost couldn’t believe that it would’ve been able to take the top spot of its opening weekend but thankfully, as it progressed, I was proven wrong.

Following the first screen adaptation, this one presents Sherlock Holmes against a foe as equally intelligent and cunning as his person, Professor James Moriarti. That’s about as much spoiler as Im going to give because the excitement that their rivalry presents is simply enthralling.

Technically and visually, much is shared with the first film carrying with it the unique cinematic signature that can be expected of a Sherlock Holmes franchise: Pre-emptive thought characterised by slow motion and narratives, accurate comedic timing as delivered by the one and only Robert Downey Jr., Dr. Watsons (Jude Law) uncanny assistance which really borders on a psychic connection between the two protagonists, and a veritable set of impossible scenarios carefully planned and masterfully executed.

Suffice it to say, you would definitely not regret going to the theater to watch either this or the fourth installment of the Mission Impossible series. Although right now, all that is available to us here in movie theaters are those of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

This movie was released internationally last year and was only deferred here due to the MMFF.
